Do the police have a right to enter a dwelling house to make an arrest?

Generally speaking a police officer requires a warrant to enter a dwelling house to make an arrest. There are exceptions such as if an officer is in hot pursuit of an individual and the individual enters the dwelling house, and if the police officer believes that an individual has committed an indictable offence and it is necessary to preserve evidence that may be lost or destroyed.
